ABOUT Moby (No Last Name Given)

Musical Comedy, 3w, 1m, 1 any

Moby No Last Name Given
Christy Buchholz as Ish - for short - Scott Gerard as Captain Ahab in the premiere at the Coop Theatre in Los Angeles. Directed by Danielle Ozymandias. Photo by Alex Moy.

Moby (No Last Name Given) premiered in August of 2006 in Los Angeles at The Black Box Theatre as part of "Book Club", directed by Danielle Ozymandias.

The play is a high-speed musical version of Herman Melville's classic novel "Moby Dick", complete with some wonderfully awful puns, and a whale that uses a bottle of diet coke and a pack of menthos to spout a geyser in the middle of the stage.

On "Thar she blows!" Moby drops menthos into a bottle of diet coke. Herman Mellville would be proud!

Why this play?

The theatre company I joined when I first moved to Los Angeles proposed an evening of comedic sketches based on great works of literature, and I chose Moby Dick which I love. Then I made it silly. The sketch closed the show each night, and was always so much fun - especially as I got to be on stage, playing a lute guitar in one corner for the sea shanties!
