Tony Kamren came to me with a wonderful story about an Afghhani-American who discovers his ten year old cousin is in an arranged marriage to an Afghan warlord.
Writing this screenplay was a journey of discovery - learning a new culture and a new way of thinking, and for me the first time I had to write someone else's story, a story they were passionate about, and emotionally driven to tell their way. I loved writing this one, and exploring the terrifying world of Naim Khan and the innocent orphan girl he kidnaps - and Omar, as naive as Nazgul herself - but determined to save the cousin he has never met.
